Acupuncture is most widely recognized for its ability
to relieve pain, especially in the hand, foot, back or leg.
However, as alternative medicine, it is effective for
many other conditions and is considered a primary
form of health care for millions of people worldwide.
More and more, insurance companies offer coverage for
acupuncture, and traditional western doctors are including it
in their practices. Some courts order acupuncture for drug
and alcohol addiction treatment. The practice of acupuncture includes more than the pain free
insertion of needles.
In the United States an acupuncturist is also
trained in the use of herbs as medication. Many practitioners also
use cupping, Gua Sha, tuning forks, electro-stimulation,
Moxabustion, massage, Qi Gong and Tai Qi as additional forms of
treatment. All of these techniques are described in our
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section (see navigation bar
at the top of the page) as well as a full discussion of Alternatve
Medicine (also on the navigation bar). More on Acupuncture >> |
